Real Stories. Real Change.

Every journey is unique, but each story shares a common thread: resilience, determination, and the support of a community that believes in second chances. Watch how the Fernhurst program helped residents build a brighter future.

History

For more than a century, YWCA Oʻahu has provided safe housing, support, and opportunity for women across Hawaiʻi. From its earliest boarding homes for working women to the opening of Fernhurst in 1921, our commitment to empowering women has remained constant. Originally designed by renowned architect Julia Morgan and made possible through the generosity of the Atherton family, Fernhurst has evolved alongside the changing needs of the community while remaining true to its purpose: serving as a place of refuge, stability, and hope. Today, through its Homebase and Furlough programs, Fernhurst continues its legacy of helping women build brighter futures and achieve lasting independence.
