International Women’s Day: March 8, 2022

YWCA Oahu’s mission, “Eliminating Racism, Empowering Women,” underscores the importance of a creating society where diversity and equity open doors of opportunity for all. Our mission shines on International Women’s Day, as the world comes together annually on March 8 to commemorate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. IWD is also a time for advocacy, reminding our communities to support legislation and policies aimed at breaking barriers in gender parity. The theme for #IWD2022 is “Break the Bias”. “Your Hour, Her Power”: March 1-31, 2022

By giving the equivalent of just one hour of your pay, you give a Dress for Success woman access to programs, services, and tools that will help her achieve economic advancement.

The second annual nationwide Dress for Success fundraising campaign, Your Hour, Her Power®, is inspired by the belief that when a woman has access to opportunities that can change her life, she becomes powerful beyond measure. The COVID-19 pandemic has set gender equality back an additional 36 years. Dress for Success is on the frontlines of getting women back to work and financially stable in the wake of this economic crisis.

YWCA O‘ahu is seeking to raise $5,000 during the month of March to celebrate Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day 2022.

Your donation will support Dress for Success Honolulu and its efforts to empower local women.

Women’s History Month

What began as a single week in 1981 to celebrate the achievements of women, has now become an entire month dedicated to highlighting the impact, power and legacies of women across the nation. Since 1995, U.S. presidents have issued annual proclamations acknowledging March as “Women’s History Month.” These proclamations celebrate the contributions women have made in our communities, and recognize the instrumental roles women have played throughout American history in a variety of fields. The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum are among the national departments and groups encouraging the study, observance and perpetuation of the vital role of women in American history.
